FORECLOSURE PARALEGAL/LAW ASSISTANT

HLA seeks a paralegal/law assistant to join our Foreclosure Prevention practice to provide support to our attorneys who represent clients facing foreclosure. The paralegal/law assistant will be expected to, among other tasks, complete client intakes, draft correspondence and other documents, and help schedule and track outreach and trainings in the community. This position is funded by the State of New York under a one-year contract, with potential for renewal and future funding, and presents a unique opportunity to join a collaborative office working to provide high-quality legal services to homeowners throughout Upstate New York.

Required Qualifications: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficient in Word, Excel, Access, and/or other database software. Strong attention to detail.  Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:  Housing counselor certification or relevant experience. Diverse economic, social, and/or cultural experiences.

Hourly Wage: Starting at $15.38, higher depending on experience.

IMMIGRATION PARALEGAL/LAW ASSISTANT

This position is funded by the State of New York under a one-year contract through the Office of New Americans, with potential for renewal and future funding, and presents a unique opportunity to join a collaborative office working to provide high-quality legal services to immigrants throughout Upstate New York.

Required Qualifications: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficient in LexisNexis, Word, Excel, Access, and/or other database software. Strong attention to detail.  Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

PARALEGAL/LAW ASSISTANT – APPEALS PROGRAM

The Hiscock Legal Aid Society, a nonprofit legal aid organization, seeks a paralegal/law assistant for its Appeals Program. The paralegal will perform legal and factual research, help prepare legal documents, gather documents and prepare records on appeal, maintain a case management system, prepare and process correspondence, and communicate with court personnel. Qualifications: working knowledge of New York criminal law and procedure; paralegal certificate or equivalent work experience; proficient in LexisNexis; proficient in Word, Excel, and Access or other database software; strong attention to detail; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; experience and/or commitment to working with low-income persons.

The Society is the appellate defender for Onondaga County, providing representation in criminal and family court appeals to the Fourth Department and Court of Appeals. PROCESS SERVER/LAW ASSISTANT

The Hiscock Legal Aid Society is looking for a Process Server/Law Assistant to primarily support HLA’s   Family Court Program  by hand-delivering documents such as subpoenas, summons, and orders to individuals involved in our court cases. This role requires familiarity with legal practices and processes, as well as the ability to research respondents, witnesses and other involved parties to find their current addresses or places of work to deliver documents. The Process Server will work closely with Attorneys and Law Assistants, and also play an important role in maintaining records to ensure that activities are properly documented.

Salary:  D.O.E. plus excellent benefits.

FAMILY COURT ATTORNEY

Hiscock Legal Aid Society, Syracuse, New York seeks an attorney to represent adult clients in Family Court matters, including Abuse/Neglect, Custody/Visitation and Support Violation cases. This position presents a unique opportunity to gain significant litigation experience, and obtain training on a wide variety of family court matters.  Our attorneys are in court almost on a daily basis.  The attorneys in the family court program are very passionate and knowledgeable. They routinely collaborate on cases to provide strong, zealous advocacy for our clients.  HLA works as a team to provide our clients holistic representation which provides the attorneys with access to a vast amount of knowledge and experience including practice areas beyond family court.  The Family Court Program team includes law assistants and other support staff who assist attorneys with daily tasks, including but not limited to service, screening, scheduling, discovery, correspondence and client advocacy. Our more experienced attorneys are provided with opportunities and encouraged to present at CLE’s and other legal platforms or community events.
