We are open Monday-Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

OpenĀ Intake

If you meet the eligibility requirements below, please call 315-422-8191 for an intake. If you are unable to call, we have an open door interviewing policy during normal business hours.

Clients for all other types of cases are seen by appointment.

Residency Requirements

Clients of our Civil Program must be residents of Onondaga County, except clients of certain specialized projects. Clients for Landlord-Tenant cases must be residents of the city of Syracuse. The Immigration and Foreclosure projects serve clients in multi-county regions:

Upstate New York Immigration Law Project: Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Oswego, Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego, Schoharie, Clinton, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence

Foreclosure Prevention Project: Onondaga, Oswego, Cayuga, Cortland

There are no residency requirements for the Family Court, Appeals, Parole and Extradition programs. Cases must originate in Onondaga County and are assigned by the courts. Appeals cases are assigned by the Appellate Division Fourth Department or the New York State Court of Appeals.

Financial Eligibility

All clients must meet financial eligibility criteria that are approved by the Hiscock Legal Aid Society Board of Directors. Criteria are based on federal poverty guidelines. Eligibility starts at $289.90 gross income per week for a single person. Approximately $100.00 per week is added for each dependent. Eligibility criteria differ depending on the type of case. Persons receiving assistance from the Onondaga County Department of Social Services or Supplemental Security Income are automatically eligible for services.
