HLA statement on current protests
We believe.
We believe in promoting justice for all. We’ve done this work for more than 70 years in the Central New York community and we’re still going strong.
We echo the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
We embrace our commitment to promote anti-racist spaces free of hate, intolerance and bigotry where all can live and thrive.
We remember the words of Nelson Mandela who said: “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
We know systemic racism and generational trauma are real, and we believe we can – and we must – do better.
We stand with those peacefully protesting against police brutality, racism, and injustice.
We affirm our commitment to our mission: The Hiscock Legal Aid Society promotes the fundamental right of every person to equal justice under the law by providing high quality legal assistance to individuals and families in need in Onondaga County and the surrounding region.
